Pink Rendezvous is an immersive illustration exhibition by Chinese-born New York based artist Arlene Sun. The show Pink Rendezvous consists of a series of units, attempting to capture people’s status quo in contemporary urban nightlife. These units are: Sanctimonious, Sarcasm, Savior, Secret, Sedative, Seduce, Selfless, Sequin, Shamble, Single, Sleepless, Smoker, etc. Instead of merging herself completely into the content of night life, Arlene Sun would describe her role as an observer. She observes people’s excitement, anticipation, involvement, performance, disappointment, and exhaustion. Arlene Sun’s illustration works are inspired by what she experienced and witnessed at these moments. The artist and the curator intentionally avoid this show as a criticism to the urban night life culture, instead, they wish it to be a strict focus on the phenomenon itself, as well as making the space as a sample of this night life sub-culture, thus turning the gallery into an immersive place where a different “Rendezvous” occurs.
